This study follows 2 adult Scoliosis patients. One has Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, this is the common form of Scoliosis that develops at a younger age. The other adult patient had Degenerative Scoliosis. This is a type of Scoliosis that develops later in age after many years of a structural spinal shift. This shift causes uneven wear to the soft tissue structures of the spine like the spinal discs. As the discs wear unevenly it causes curves in the spine that will look and behave the same as the Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis curves.
The patient with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis was 26 years old with pain levels at a 7 out of 10. After wearing the brace daily for 8 to 12 hours for 3 months her pain was down to 1-2 out of 10. In the brace her curve decreased from 32 degrees to 24 degrees and was maintained for over 2 years by wearing the brace part time.
The second patient with the Degenerative Scoliosis was 47 years old and had pain levels at 8 out of 10 and her initial curve was 40 degrees. In the brace she had an immediate reduction of her pain to a 3 out of 10. Over the course of treatment her pain further improved to be 0-3 out of 10 and her curve reduced to 33 degrees this was maintained over a 2 year period.
